So after nine long months of not being able to partake of beautiful grapes, I am back in business!! My only challenge now is “Where Do I Start?”
I was quite proud of the palate I had developed over the years. Having gone so many months without being able to drink wine has put me back at square one! So, how do I get my groove back? Should I start from the beginning with the Muscadine wines I drank before anything else? Should I start with sweeter wines and slowly enter into the drier arena?
Help!!!!!!!
So far, I have been sticking to some of the sweeter wines to entice my palate. Yesterday, I ventured into my favorite wine store, Total Wines, to purchase a Sauvignon Blanc and a Cabernet Sauvignon. My mind was ready to jump back into the game, but was my palate?
What I ended up choosing was a 2012 Cloud Break Sauvignon Blanc…..
What I ended up choosing was a 2012 Cloud Break Sauvignon Blanc…..
and a Cabernet Sauvignon from the R Collection of Raymond Vineyards.
Now, the VERY first time I tasted a wine besides a Muscadine wine, my palate was completely untrained and was not accepting of the flavors. This time around, I was pleasantly surprised that I have not completely lost my touch. Now I definitely was not able to taste what I imagine I could have nine months ago, but the flavors were not bad at all. I could actually identify some fruit!!
So maybe I’m not at square one after all. I’m more around square five!
Believe me, I have a lot of work to do. I remember reading somewhere that the best way to learn about wine is to taste. I have a lot of catching up to do. If you have any recommendations of great starter wines for beginners or for moms like me, fresh off of maternity leave, TELL ME!!
